This course is the second level of standards-based certification available to firefighters. Course materials provide additional information on topics included in the Firefighter I program, and allows the firefighter to participate in certification testing to obtain Firefighter II certification based on NFPA 1001, 2013 edition. Firefighter II topics include: Incident Command Systems, Firefighter I Skills Review, Utility Emergencies, Firefighter Safety Skills, Fire Suppression II, Rescue Skills , Pre-Incident Survey and Prevention/Public Education, Vehicle Rescue, and Fire Cause. Upon successful completion of the certification test, the student will be certified as Firefighter II.
The objective of this course is to teach instructors and trainers how to organize and teach a course effectively using existing lesson plans and using the Four Step Instructional Model.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to plan instruction using a variety of instructional methods, teach diverse learners, evaluate course outcomes, and address the critical issues of safety and the legal issues of training.
Major topics covered in the course are the; challenges of emergency services instruction, speaking before a group, safety, the instructor's role, legal considerations, the psychology of learning, instructional delivery, practical training evolutions, instructional media, and testing and evaluation.
The purpose of this course is to provide emergency services personnel with basic information necessary to meet the job performance requirements (JPRs) of NFPA 1021 for level I fire officers. The scope of this class is to provide level I fire officer candidates and current fire and emergency services company officers with basic supervisory and managerial knowledge. This knowledge is necessary to develop skills for ensuring safe, effective, and efficient leadership during emergency operations and non-emergency activities, as well as the daily administration within the organization.
Major topics covered in the course are the role of the fire officer, the fire officer's responsibility in facing compliance and accountability, managing cultural diversity, safety and wellness, quality management within the organizational structure, community awareness, public relations, fire safety education, functional leadership, problem solving, performance appraisal, building construction, fire cause determination, effective communication skills, and the incident command system with strategy and tactics
This 36 Hour training program uses an intensive instructional methodology program to prepare the participant for planning and developing all aspects of course curriculum. The course also includes needs analysis, task analysis, course goals and objectives, lesson plan development, instructional support materials and evaluation instruments. This course meets the competency standards established by the NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Instructor II. Upon completion of this course candidates will be offered the opportunity to participate in the Washington State Instructor II certification testing process.
The purpose of this course is to provide emergency services personnel with training in company operations and administration that enhances the entry-level company officer training course. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to effectively manage; human resources, community/public relations, fire department organization and administration to include; budgets, reports, planning, fire inspection, investigation, public education, emergency service delivery, and safety.
Major topics covered in the course are the roles of a fire officer, human resource management, managing affirmative action, government agencies, supervisor and subordinate interaction, the budgetary process, information management systems, health and safety, fire safety inspection, public fire education, specialized fire protection equipment, organizational communications, strategic planning, and tactics.
